Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
